sparking change in Haiti

More than eleven years after the devastating earthquake that struck in 2010, Haiti remains today, in many ways, in the rebuilding phase. While billions in foreign aid has been committed, much of that has been focused on immediate need, leaving clear opportunities to invest in long-term sustainability. From an infrastructure perspective, the need for skilled labor and professionals goes hand in hand with overall economic development. It is in this space that Katalis has created an innovative scholarship program intent on empowering Haiti's future leaders.

opportunity for impact

  • Haitians with advanced education make up only 3% of the country's population (World Bank)

  • more than 2/3 of the Haitian workforce do not have formal jobs (USAID)

  • skilled labor jobs exist without the qualified workforce to fill them (World Factbook)

  • while costs vary between different universities, quality higher education can generally be obtained for ~$2,500 US/year
